History of the Education of the Deaf in Mexico and Mexican Sign Language
Education for deaf children in Mexico is woefully inadequate. Approximately 30 deaf children are born south of the border each day. Many eventually come to America in search of a better life. Deaf Mexicans living in the United States who lack an education frequently end up in the courts because they do not understand the concept of laws, and there are few Mexican Sign Language interpreters available to help them navigate the judicial system.
In an effort to encourage greater understanding of Mexican Deaf culture and to bring attention to the need for better education and training for the deaf in Mexico, Margarita Adams, who was born deaf in Mexico City, wrote Historia De La Educacion De Los Sordos En Mexico. Education of the deaf in Mexico has been spotty and severely underfunded by the government, condemning generations of deaf children to little or no schooling and illiteracy. Historia features 158 pages of Mexican signs with Spanish-and English-language keys.
Because records are few and information is scarce, this is an invaluable narrative of historical documents unearthed in Mexican archives and libraries. Black-and-white archival photos of Mexican deaf schools, educators, and students are interspersed throughout the text.

Historia De La Educacion De Los Sordos En Mexico Y Lenguaje Por Senas Mexicano
Explica la historia de la educación del estudiante sordo en México, cómo se inició la Lengua de Señas Mexicanas (LSM), y por qué no existen escuelas para sordos. El libro permite al lector comprender algunos de los problemas a que se enfrentan a los sordos en su cultura.

Cultura: El sistema de creencias, valores, costumbres, comportamientos y artefactos compartidos, que los integrantes de una sociedad utilizan para hacer frente a su mundo y entre sí. Se transmiten de generación a generación a través de la enseñanza.
